In search of glycan biomarkers for the non-invasive diagnosis of endometriosis

About me:

I have been interested in science since I was a BSc student. After immersing myself into microbiological studies, a brief search followed, when I was able to gain insight into the work of several departments and finally joined a research group of Horváth Csaba Bioseparation Science Laboratory. As part of my PhD thesis, I examined blood samples from patients with multiple myeloma and other haematological diseases. I performed a carbohydrate analysis of proteins from the blood by the method of capillary electrophoresis with laser-induced fluorescent detection. There is great potential in glycomics and I love this discipline of science, but I also longed to learn new methods and knowledge. That is why I applied for the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions researcher mobility fellowship. The application was found to be worthy of support by the European Commission, thus I am currently examining non-invasive diagnostic methods for endometriosis and can also learn new chemical analytical methods. I find this work very helpful because we currently know little about this disease and both diagnostic and treatment options are very limited. Knowledge of the endometriosis at the societal level is minimal therefore sharing and disseminating reliable information is also an important task. This need brought to life this surface and it is no coincidence that the yellow ribbon is a sign of this website because it is one of the symbols of endometriosis. I hope that with my work I can contribute to changing this situation.
